The climax
Logan is strapped into the surrogation chair and the central computer asks him the question it sent him out to answer. He delivers the report: there is no Sanctuary. All frozen. An old man.b30 The computer answers with "the input does not program" and tries to force him to recant. He repeats the truth. The contradiction overloads the system; the chamber strobes and fails. The post-midpoint approach — tell the truth the assignment was designed to suppress — is tested at the highest stakes (against the institution itself, with the apparatus of the dome's authority converging) and holds.
The wind-down differs because
Beats 31–35 are the dome's infrastructure coming apart, citizens pouring out onto the grass, and Logan, Jessica, and the Old Man meeting on the lawn.b31 b33 b35 Diagnostic: the interrogation tested whether the truth would crash the system; the dome cracking and the citizens meeting old age for the first time enacts the consequences of the test holding. The wind-down image — citizens touching the Old Man's hand — is the new equilibrium at the scale of the regime, not just the protagonist.
Why this is a validation climax
Logan's post-midpoint approach is built from Box's cave forward: stop pretending, run for himself, treat the evidence as evidence. The walk through the overgrown ruins, Francis's clearing crystal, the Old Man's "You renewed" — each is the new approach being practiced and refined. By the time Logan returns to the dome and is strapped into the surrogation chair, the truth he is going to tell is fully formed. The interrogation tests an already-built understanding against the system that requires the lie. Validation: realization at the cave (no Sanctuary), build through the falling action (Francis dies, Old Man confirms), confirming test at the institutional voice.
