After being exposed as frauds by P.T. Flea and banished from Ant Island, the circus bugs leave in P.T. Flea's wagon. They are pursued by Dot, who informs them that Hopper plans to kill the Queen. Dot convinces Flik (who is despondent) and the circus bugs to return to save the colony. They return and fight the grasshoppers using their circus acts (e.g., Manny's magic, Tuck and Roll as cannonballs). After the grasshoppers are defeated, they leave Ant Island again, this time as heroes, to resume their tour.
The circus bugs, after realizing their mistake in believing Flik's story about them being hired to fight the grasshoppers, leave Ant Island in a hurry. However, they don't get very far before they realize that they've lost their wagon.
They eventually manage to recover their wagon, which had been snagged and left behind. After a brief period of confusion and argument among themselves about their next move, they are convinced by Heimlich (the caterpillar) and Dim (the rhino beetle) to turn back.
They decide to return to Ant Island because they realize that Atta and Dot are in genuine danger from Hopper and the grasshoppers. Despite their initial reluctance and self-interest, they are motivated by a sense of duty and the bonds they formed with the royal family and Flik.
When they return, they come back as genuine heroes and fighters. They use their various talents, which were previously just circus acts, as tools to fight the grasshoppers:
In short, they turn back to Ant Island to help Flik and the colony defeat the grasshoppers, proving their worth not as performers, but as true friends and allies in the final conflict. They remain on the island until the grasshoppers are defeated.
The summary completely omits Dot's crucial role in flying after the bugs and convincing them to return.
The summary frames the departure as a voluntary choice based on a realization, omitting the dramatic banishment scene.
