The climax

The bounded scene is the abandoned sanatorium chapel where the 1964 spree ended on the kneeling congregation. The lead-up half — Patricia strangling Frank's body on the chapel floor, Frank's spirit seizing her and hauling her across the threshold, Cyrus and Stuart and the Judge returning as spirit-side allies, Lucy keeping the body breathing on this side — is the test running.^b37a The certainty-moment is the dragging-down: Bartlett follows Patricia across because he cannot stand to lose her, and demonic forces seize both killers and drag them down while a Heaven-shaped opening rises behind Frank.^b37b

The post-midpoint approach the back half built is partnered threshold-crossing — Frank stops running the con, names what the entity has been counting toward (Bartlett's score, Patricia as living anchor, Debra as the thirteenth in a continuing series), and crosses the threshold willingly with Lucy keeping the body alive on this side.^b27 The dragging-down is the verdict the chapel returns on the approach: both killers gone, body alive, partnership intact, the engagement won at the level Bartlett operated on.
