Larry Peerce's The Incident (1967). Two violent drifters (Tony Musante and Martin Sheen) board a late-night Lexington Avenue local in the Bronx and terrorize the passengers in the rear car of an otherwise-empty train. Adapted by Nicholas E. Baehr from his own 1963 teleplay "Ride with Terror" (CBS's DuPont Show of the Week). The ensemble includes Beau Bridges, Jack Gilford, Thelma Ritter, Brock Peters, Ruby Dee, Ed McMahon, Gary Merrill, Donna Mills, and Robert Bannard. Shot on a soundstage with cinematography by Gerald Hirschfeld and music by Charles Fox. A near-real-time bottle thriller about bystander paralysis and the social rules that hold a closed compartment hostage.
