Overview

The third entry in the Shrek franchise. With King Harold's death looming, the throne of Far Far Away passes to Shrek, who has no interest in being king. Harold's last act is to name a backup heir — a distant nephew named Arthur Pendragon, currently a teenager at the Worcestershire boarding school. Shrek, accompanied by Donkey and Puss in Boots, sets off to retrieve Artie. Meanwhile, Prince Charming — embittered by the public humiliation of Shrek 2 — assembles an army of fairy-tale villains to seize the kingdom in Shrek's absence. Fiona, pregnant with Shrek's child, leads the princesses of the kingdom in a parallel resistance plot. The film stages a generational handoff: Shrek's reluctant search for an alternative to himself, and Artie's reluctant acceptance of the role being handed to him.
