Physical Media Releases (The Prestige) The Prestige

DVD and Blu-ray debuted simultaneously in February 2007

Buena Vista Home Entertainment released The Prestige on DVD and Blu-ray in Region 1 (North America) on February 20, 2007. Warner Bros. released the Region 2 (Europe/UK) DVD on March 12, 2007. The film was also available on the now-discontinued HD DVD format. (blu-ray.com, wikipedia)

Special features are slim by design

Nolan declined to record a commentary track, consistent with his practice across all his films. He felt that the film relied on audience reaction and that explaining its construction would undermine the experience -- the same logic that governs the film's own argument about magicians never revealing their secrets.

The supplemental material consists of a documentary, The Director's Notebook: The Cinematic Sleight of Hand of Christopher Nolan, divided into six featurettes totaling approximately 34 minutes:

  • The Director's Notebook (4 minutes)
  • Conjuring the Past (5 minutes) -- production design and locations
  • The Visual Maze (4 minutes) -- cinematography and visual approach
  • Metaphors of Deception -- the magic sequences
  • Tesla: The Man Who Invented the Twentieth Century -- David Bowie's casting and the historical Tesla
  • Resonances -- themes and structure

An art gallery, The Art of The Prestige, and a theatrical trailer round out the disc. (blu-ray.com, wikipedia)

4K Ultra HD Blu-ray arrived in December 2017

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment released the 4K UHD Blu-ray in the United Kingdom on December 18, 2017. Touchstone Home Entertainment followed with the US release on December 19, 2017. The 4K disc carries no special features of its own; all supplements are on the accompanying standard Blu-ray disc. The transfer was part of a batch of seven Nolan films scanned at 4K for the format.
