Physical Media Releases (Rollerball) Rollerball
Rollerball (1975) has been issued on home video continuously since the early VHS era. The most-current edition, as of the mid-2020s, is Arrow Video's 2025 4K UHD release — the first North American 4K edition, derived from a new master supervised by MGM's restoration team.
VHS, LaserDisc, and the early MGM/UA editions
The film entered home video through MGM/UA's VHS slate in the 1980s. Early MGM/UA VHS and LaserDisc editions presented the film in 1.85:1 pan-and-scan or modified-aspect transfers typical of the period. The LaserDisc editions of the 1990s were the first widely available widescreen presentations.
DVD
MGM Home Entertainment issued Rollerball on Region 1 DVD in 1998 as part of the studio's catalogue line. The disc carried a 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer and minimal extras. A 2007 reissue added a Norman Jewison audio commentary — the most-substantive supplement the title received before the Blu-ray era — alongside an isolated music track and the trailer.
Blu-ray
Twilight Time issued Rollerball as a limited Blu-ray edition in 2014, with a high-definition transfer, the Jewison commentary, the isolated André Previn score track, and Julie Kirgo's signature illustrated booklet essay. The Twilight Time edition was capped at 3,000 units and is long out of print; secondary-market prices climbed into the three-figure range through the late 2010s.
Arrow Video's 2018 UK Blu-ray release brought Rollerball back into print with a new transfer and expanded extras — interviews with critics, a video essay on the film's design, and the Jewison commentary.
4K UHD (2025)
Arrow Video issued the 4K UHD edition in 2025, timed to the film's fiftieth anniversary. The release carries:
- A new 4K restoration supervised by MGM's restoration team
- HDR10 and Dolby Vision grading
- The Norman Jewison audio commentary
- New retrospective interviews
- A booklet of essays on Harrison's source story, the production, and the film's legacy
The 2025 Arrow edition is the canonical home-video version of the film as of this writing.
Streaming
Rollerball has rotated through Amazon Prime Video, MGM+, the Criterion Channel, and Tubi at various points in the 2020s. Rights ownership tracks with MGM's catalogue (now Amazon-owned).
