Jake's agency starts low because he is following Alonzo's lead — doing what he's told, smoking what he's given, going where he's taken. He's not making meaningful choices; he's auditioning. Agency begins to diverge from control at the girl rescue (beat 7), the first independent moral decision. After Roger's murder shatters the illusion, Jake's agency climbs steadily even as his control hits zero in the bathtub. He CHOOSES to go back to the Jungle, CHOOSES to confront Alonzo, CHOOSES not to execute him. The final act is all high agency — every point of control Jake recovers, he earned through choices made when the situation gave him nothing.
