Rocky (1976)

Control vs. Agency (Audience Perspective)

Rocky's agency runs consistently higher than his control because every setback is met with a choice to keep going. When Mickey calls him a tomato, Rocky's control craters but his agency barely dips — he's still showing up, still walking Adrian home, still refusing to break thumbs. The gap is widest in Act Three: control drops as training reveals how outmatched he is, but agency surges because every 4 AM alarm, every punch into beef, every stair climb is a deliberate act of will. The lines nearly converge at the knockdown (beat 34) and stay close through the finish — when you choose hard enough, control eventually follows.
