Jake's agency is catastrophically low for the first half of the film — and neither he nor the audience knows it. Every choice he thinks he's making (watching the neighbor, following Gloria, the beach kiss) is choreographed by Sam. His agency score stays low because being manipulated IS low agency, even when the character feels active. The inflection point is beat 22: when Jake decides to investigate on his own, agency begins climbing independently of control. By the porn-set infiltration, agency is high even as control remains shaky. The buried-alive scene is the crisis where both collapse, and the escape is where they finally align — Jake acting on his own terms for the first time in the film.
